![]() ![]() The influence that his existence will have on the world in the years following Jonathan Osterman's accident is unfathomable. "The superman exists, and he's American." This is the first official news that the world receives about the existence of Doctor Manhattan. I plan to spend about three to four pages analyzing each character, so what follows is my analysis thus far of Doctor Manhattan. I'll be examining the implications of each characters' actions or existence in their respective graphic narratives and then compare them to the film versions of each narrative (The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight are extremely similar). ![]() The Joker sets out to prove that our law system is a failure, V will do anything to tear down a government, and Doctor Manhattan makes everyone question the laws of physics simply by existing. Either by their actions or simply by their existence, all three of these questionably human characters succeed in throwing a part of their society into complete chaos. The three characters that I will focus on are The Joker in "The Killing Joke," V in V for Vendetta, and Doctor Manhattan in Watchmen. I have decided to instead focus on Allen Moore and his tendency to include characters in his stories that are barely recognizable as human yet extremely influential as a determining force in their given stories' plot. Thesis Change: I did a considerable amount of research on my idea to write about comic book heroes being created by their authors and illustrators in response to societal changes, but realized I wouldn't be able to narrow my topic down enough to develop an effective thesis. ![]()
